Since our doors opened on June 20th 1998, The Gatehouse has grown from a small community grassroots agency into a strong national voice on the issue of child abuse.

  • December 1997 to June 1998: Completed a $300,000.00 renovation to an abandoned century-old house for just $30,000.00 ... in just 6 months!

  • October 2000: The Chief of Police, Julian Fantino visited The Gatehouse as we were named the Best Practice site for victim services in all of Ontario by the Attorney General's office;

  • March 2001: The Gatehouse was honoured with The Community Service Award at the Etobicoke Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards;

  • February 2001: Macleans national magazine cited The GatehouseŽ in an article about a Supreme Court decision regarding child pornography;

  • The Federal Justice Department has asked for our input regarding the impact of crimes on victims of abuse;

  • We were invited to present The Gatehouse model at the national conference of The National Organization for Victims Assistance (NOVA) in Edmonton, Alberta;

  • Our investigation model was presented to the International Association of Chiefs of Police;

  • March 2002: The Toronto Police noted our staff's support in a press release about investigations held at The Gatehouse (Toronto Star article);

  • We have been invited to consult with different agencies in Ontario interested in replicating The Gatehouse in their own community;

  • June 2003: The Gatehouse was awarded the Mayor's Community Safety Award

  • September 2003: The Gatehouse was awarded the Ruth Atkinson Hindmarsh Award

  • December 2003: We were invited to participate in roundtable discussions hosted by The Canadian Centre for Abuse Awareness. Topics included legislative and policy areas that impact on the victimization of child abuse victims
