THE GATEHOUSE AWARENESS PROJECTS (GAP) and THE GATEHOUSE EDUCATION AND CONSULTATION PROGRAM

The Gatehouse has long been recognized as a leading resource on child abuse prevention, healing and recovery, investigation support as well as providing an extensive adult support program Complementing these various roles we have developed a series of projects called The Gatehouse Awareness Projects (GAP). Each year, through the generous support of Dion, Durrell and Associates Ltd., we have undertaken individual project or program supports that encourage outreach, education, and promotion of Gatehouse services, child abuse reporting and the law as well as keeping the impacts of child abuse in high profile, to ensure that the  ongoing need to address this issue is never forgotten. Some of the projects currently underway include a video of the investigation experience taken from a child's point of view, the production of the book Mia's Secret due in October 2007.

To encourage the expansion of a community volunteer-based response to adults who experienced early abuse, we have also established an extensive program of inter-agency volunteer education and training under the title The Gatehouse Education and Consultation Program. This program encourages agencies working with adults on other issues, to train a committed group of volunteers to support those adults who are also living with the impacts of childhood abuse, through a mentor and/or facilitated self-support group.

For further information on this program you can call 416 255 5900 Ext 226 and ask for The Community and Volunteer Coordinator Program
