Making Donations to Support The Gatehouse®
For more information on all ways to make a financial donation to The Gatehouse®, please contact Jeannette Vanden Heuvel, Fundraising at 416 255 5900 x 225.
Donating Gifts of Securities
Donating appreciated stocks, bonds and mutual fund units is the most tax-effective way to make an outright gift during your lifetime or as part of a legacy gift.
Whether you donate cash or appreciated securities, you will receive a tax receipt that creates a tax credit. An extra tax incentive available for gifts of appreciated publicly listed securities makes stocks the least expensive way to give. Donors receive a tax credit for their gift and have the additional tax incentive of paying no capital gains tax.
The donation of qualifying shares purchased through employee stock options would be treated in a similar manner as a gift of publicly listed securities. These donations are therefore eligible for reduced capital gains inclusion rates providing the shares are donated within 30 days after their acquisition and in the year they were acquired.
Be sure to check with your financial advisor when considering gifts of securities.
Charitable Bequest
The most commonly planned gift, a charitable bequest, is a gift that is made through your will.
You can choose to leave The Gatehouse® a specific piece of property, a pre-determined sum of money or a percentage of your estate. Planned today, a bequest benefits The Gatehouse® after your death.
Through your will, you may even provide a permanent endowment in your name or a loved one's name.
By carefully planning your bequest, you can eliminate significant taxes payable upon your death. Your estate may claim gifts in the year of death equal to 100 percent of your net income in that year and the year preceeding death.
If you are drafting or revising your will, please consider including a gift to The Gatehouse®.
Be sure to check with your legal advisor when considering a charitable bequest.
Tribute Gifts
Use the occasion of a birthday, bar mitzvah, or anniversary to share your love for children with a cherished friend. Or celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Mother's or Father's Day with a contribution to The Gatehouse® in honor of one or more family members. To remember someone who had a special concern for children, you can make a memorial gift in their name.
The Gatehouse® is pleased and proud to accept gifts made in memory of loved ones or in honor of family, friends or special occasions.
To make a Tribute Gift, send us a letter with the name of the person in whose name you want to make the gift, the occasion (if any), and the name and address of any person who should receive a notification of your gift. We do not inform that person of the amount of your gift, only that we have received it.
Please remember to include your own name and address so that we can give you the proper acknowledgement of your gift.
Sponsorship Opportunities Members of our corporate and small business communities support our programs through their financial sponsorship of events, as well as their donations of products and services. Join these community leaders in supporting The Gatehouse®.
On May 3, 2008, The Gatehouse® will be holding its MAYDAY Community Fundraiser. If you would like to get involved, contact Jeannette Vanden Heuvel, Fundraising at 416 255 5900 x 225.

Celebrate Your Special Day with a Gift to The Gatehouse®!
Asking for a donation to support The Gatehouse® instead of a gift at your birthday or anniversary party, or wedding, is a great way of helping while celebrating a special occasion.
When sending invitations to your friends, family and associates, ask them to make a donation in honour of your special occasion rather than buying you a gift.
Be sure to contact us with your list of party guests so that we can thank them individually. We will not disclose the amount of the gift, but will acknowledge their support.
Matching Gifts
Many companies have programs that match the donations made by current or retired employees and their spouses or Board of Directors. Check with your employer or associated company today to see if they have a matching gift program.
